Time flies

Wow. A lot has happened since the deworming featured below. We are all worm free (just Toots and Grizz were ever afflicted). Both cats have tried their paws at escaping into the great outdoors. Grizz has been somewhat more successful, though has always returned a little more scared. Tootsie won't reallY make it past the front stoop without scampering back inside.

Grizz still does not like water - and Tootsie makes up for this with her insane (at least by cat standards) love of all things water-related. In other news, Tootsie is all for checking out small confined spaces which resulted in her inadvertent stay in the kitchen pantry for several hours last month.

We took our first week away from Tootsie and Grizz living the in the capable hands of h's pal...it seems like Tootsie grew while we were gone, but we haven't had a chance to weigh her and confirm.

Besides the updates above, our time has been filled with the ups and downs of my broken ankle. Ugh. I broke it early last month rolling my ankle over my danskos and falling. Thought it was simply sprained for the first week thanks to some tips from the nurses line. Called back a week later and was prompted to go straight to the doctor. My evening ended in the ER awaiting a splint. Met with a podiatrist the following Wednesday and booked his first available surgery to repair my broken fibula with a plate and 7 screws. Today marks the start of week 4 post-surgery and non-weight-bearing. You don't really realize how nice it is to be completely independent until you have no choice but to depend on others. I'm so thankful that I'm surrounded by people willing to help...even if it's not always easy to accept.

H has been the best ever - so caring and supportive and positive through it all. Positive enough for both of us on the days i don't have it in me, and able to make me smile by showing me how much fun is possible when I use my knee scooter like every little kid would love to.

Today I also finally got my 2nd splint removed...along with 20ish staples. I'm in a walking boot (which is a very confusing name because i still cant walk in it)and on the knee scooter for another 2 weeks. The cats have gotten used to me wheeling around, but not to my crawling up and down the stairs...it looks too much like I'm trying to play i suppose.

Enough about the ankle for now...H and i are also waiting to get the call that we're going to have a new niece or nephew. My sister and her husband are 8.5 mos pregnant and we're all so anxious to meet their bundle of joy.

More soon...

dewormed

tootsie somehow got worms and today they both went to the vet to get a deworming pill delivered by a loving nurse.  tootsie is already showing signs of being back to her old self.  for indoor cats, they have sure gotten into a lot of things already...maybe it's time to let them outside.

time is flying...

we're already well into june and i feel like i just posted last week.  the kitties are totally recovered from their fixin'.  tootsie is in a real hunting mode - finding random things all over the house and bringing them to us for bonus points.   it also means that she loves fetch...any old thing will do and she'll bring it back for me to throw indefinitely.  grizz is obsessed with getting outside.  he just stares and sits out the window...chirping.  he's darted for the door a few times, but for the most part he's remembering to be an indoor cat (for now).

h is super busy with school and work.  when he started grad school  i thought maybe i'd look for a program i loved and go back.  however, watching him the last 10 months has made me re-evaluate. he's been so dedicated and focused and i am oh so proud of him.

meanwhile, i've been reading fluff, hanging out with people i haven't seen in ages and trying to spend more time outside.  oh - and being completely obsessed with pinterest. i heart it.  always something new to find and save for cataloging, making, or wishing.  i think i'll go pin something now...

sleeping beauties

such cute little kitties - they've taken to cuddling in a little basket we have in our living room.  it is beyond cute.  i just saw a blog post today - can't find it now to share, but it basically said that all animals like to spoon.  a google image search will prove it.  there are a lot of cute cats and dogs out there napping together.  our kitties are so so so sweet - when they're sleeping.  while awake they've been getting into everything, jumping on every surface, and most recently broke some elephant bookends...i'm going to see if I can't get them back to wonderful with a little super glue (wish me luck!).

fixed.

it's official! tootsie and grizz are fixed.  they made it through the procedure fine, and are even better than their pre-procedure selves.  better...but even more anxious to get outside!

Soups on!

My husband loves soup...so much we call him soups. In fact in the last year it has gotten to be common practice that upon entering a restaurant his first question is, "what's your soup of the day?" personally, I've never been a huge soup fan - I like it, occassionally its quite good, but not really my thing.

H, however, is in love with soup.

So - in honor of said love i made two crockpot soups this week, corn chowder and baked potato soup. Both are from 365 days of crockpot recipes, Or crockpot 365 as they call it. they were both delicious - though i didn't follow them directly to the T.

For the corn chowder i didn't have the fire roasted corn from trader joes's...so instead to acquire some of the smokey taste i added some chipotle cheddar. YUM!

I didn't quite have 5lbs of potato for the potato soup - but it still turned out delish. In fact, it's still cooling on the kitchen counter.

I think we're going to be having a lot of soup lately...and i'm excited about it!

ugh...and yay!

first - the ugh...,
the cats have gotten a little too smart for my liking.  they are now getting into *everything*!
kitchen counters, houseplants, compost, window screens, and the piano.  so, the houseplants have moved outside, collars with bells have been placed around their necks, and the piano is temporarily covered in foil.  the piano wouldn't be a big deal, if they hadn't chewed off a corner of the top, and scratched the top.  :(

yay!
i had 3 household projects this week that I had been putting off.
1.  the giant paper towel rolls had broken the paper towel dispenser under the sink - so I replaced it with a new one.
2.  our kitchen sink screen has needed replacement or cleaning for a LONG time.  i finally did it and it was SO easy, I can't believe i waited so long.
3. our piano and a desk we got from h's grandma were covered in scratches.  a little scratch cover/furniture polish combo did a great job of covering up all the scratches (and maybe that's what attracted the cats to the piano in the first place?)
